We seek a dynamic, creative and committed intern to provide support to the Akiba Uhaki Foundation (AUF) Finance Team which covers East Africa. The internship position reports directly to the Finance and Grants Management Accountant and works closely with the Assistant Finance and Grants Management Accountant as well as the entire AUF team.

AUF – the Human Rights and Social Justice Fund, is a regional grant-making organisation dedicated to supporting and accompanying human rights and social justice related organisations in East Africa. The fund envisions “A just world in which all people enjoy their human rights and live in dignity.” Our mission is to be a proactive and innovative grant-making institution working to promote and strengthen human rights inclusive of social justice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assisting in reimbursement systems and assisting with grants processing, financial analysis of actual projected expenses, account payables and receivables.

  2. Assisting with audit preparation.

  3. Completing miscellaneous, special projects of the Finance department as needed, which may include account reconciliation, including balance sheet.

  4. Assist with month-end financial reports.

  5. Post journal entries

  6. Data entry

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven commitment to the protection of human rights in the East African region.

  • Previous experience in a finance role would be an added advantage.

  • Extensive computer skills (expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel and databases required) and the ability to learn new software applications.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse array of people.

  • Team spirit and respectful working and decision-making style.

  • Integrity, diplomatic manner and professional discretion is essential.
